Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"...

Damn kids. They're all alike.

But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?

I am a hacker, enter my world...

Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...

Damn underachiever. They're all alike.

I'm in junior high or high school. I've listened to teachers explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand it. "No, Ms. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."

Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.

I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me... Or feels threatened by me.. Or thinks I'm a smart ass.. Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...

Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.

And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a board is found. "This is it... this is where I belong..." I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...

Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...

You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you did let slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in the desert.

This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.

It's been awhile since I posted. I have no idea why, just getting lazy I guess. So, what's been up? I got a check from my mom before she left to go back to Birmingham (same night I got back from the Florida trip), and I cashed it a week later. Combining the money with other money I had, I drove over to BestBuy, and purchased myself an early Christmas gift. Linksys Wireless-G (802.11g) Router/Access Point (WRT54G):

I told ya I was gonna get one! It's awesome, I'm using it right now. You know, it's kickass to surf the web...outside your house!

Anyways, it's Christmas Eve at 11:15PM, and I have no Christmas spirit right now. Must be because I'm not really doing anything tomorrow. No tree, no presents, I won't get to see my mom or sister, no nothing. I guess I'm cool with it (I'm 18 after all). But sometimes I do miss the old days when Christmas actually was fun. Now it just feels like it's gonna be just like every other day out of my life. I have $45 in my wallet, I think I'll go buy myself another gift, kinda "fake" that Christmas feeling.

Anyways, I'm going to bed. And to all my readers, Merry Christmas! I'll definatly be writting in my blog on New Years Eve night! More updates later...

11:00 PM - Well, around 5PM today, I decided that I should do something cool for a change. So I call up my local theater, and ask if they're doing a midnight showing of LOTR: The Return of the King. Sure enough, they are. So I drive down there around 6PM, and buy myself a ticket. It cost me $7.25, but I think it's gonna be worth it. The clock just rang for 11 o'clock, and I'm planning on leaving here in about 15 minutes. Since it won't start until 12AM, and the movie lasts so long, I might not get back until like 3:30AM or so...pretty cool stuff. Anyway, more later, and I'll let everyone know what I thought about it. Look, here's a pic of my ticket:

3:51 AM - I just got back, the movie was great. So many SFX scenes, and thank god for Havok! hehe. Well, I'm really tired now, so I'm going to bed. Later.

Well, this weekend is crazy. My mom and sister decided to come down Friday night from Birmingham, spend the night, and drive to St. Augustine Florida to visit with my mom's family. I'm sitting in my aunts rooms right now, and everything's going pretty good. I've been eating food and getting gifts, it's all cool. I got to see all my aunts, uncles, and cousins that I haven't seen in like 3 years or so. I decided to open my laptop in the room I'm staying in (which this place is a nice place that rich people live), and look for APs. Well, as soon as I started netstumbler up, BING-BING! I got an access point...the SSID is default, and it's a D-link. Not too much experience with a dlink, but I assume that default for the SSID is just like linksys with "linksys". So, I try to connect, and I get on the network. I decide to check my signal strength:

54mbps, which means their using a Wireless-G device (because I am too)

So I try to open google, and I get an error. So I check my wireless status:

Look, no IP! So I hit repair and ask the router for an luck.

Here's the signal strength I saw in NetStumbler:

Looks like they're using MAC filtering, but no WEP. I always wonder why they do that? Heck, if they're gonna turn on filtering, might as well change the default SSID and use WEP. So this sucks, no internet...I could change my MAC address or try to spoof an IP, but I'm not that kinda person. I was just hoping for net access to read the news and crap. I miss my DSL line already. And I'm looking foward to a 8-hour trip back to Mobile...this crap is hell. I drove about 100 miles today to help my mom out some on driving. Good news is that next week I'm gonna buy myself a Wireless Access Point...hell yeah! More Updates Later...(I'm still in Florida, 600 miles away from home...)

OK, we've been on the road for at least like 5 hours now, and we're entering into Mobile. Here's Mobile City as I saw it from my car:

As we entered I-65 from I-10, I decided to open my laptop and see if I could find any APs...and find APs I did, just look at all this!:

BULLARD - I assume it was from Joe Bullard Mitsubishi, which I passes by on I-65

ZAA - I have no idea

2access - Must be free to use, since it has no WEP (ph34r)

188ALT - Sounds like a phone number 1-888-ALT, lol, but I have no idea where it came from

blueberry - sounds like we have a fruit lover that owns a WAP

FreeWiFi - Well hell ya! I'll be visiting that place soon for some free wifi, since it's so close to me, and I've never seen it before, which means it was new!

Well, that was one hell on an insane trip. 600 miles one way, a total of 1200 miles logged in 2 days! I'm back home now, I've got a whole month of from classes, and I'm buying a WAP next weekend! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last day of computer class! All I have to do is take this CIS 110 Final, and I'll be done with this class. Only PHL and EH Finals left, and this Friday I'll be leaving with my mom and sister to Jacksonville, FL, to visit with my mom's family. that's about a 7 hour drive, I can just imagine all the APs I can scan..hehe. Anyways, more later.

I just had to show you guys something cool. As you know, I frequent the forums at, and recently we got a moblog up for public use, and lots of people have been uploading photos to it. I have to. I just uploaded a photo of my Wardriver sticker that's on my car to thebroken moblog, and guess what? The photo of my car is on the main site How cool is that? Here's a screenshot of it, since it might change soon:

Anyways, I have a few photos up on my personal moblog page, you should check it out, and leave me a comment or two :)

Maybe I should wardrive today.

Friday, December 05, 2003

Woohoo! I got a moblog, I got a moblog.

What's a Moblog you ask? It's a blog that uses pictures! And all this time I thought I was out of luck because I didn't have one of those $400 camera phones. But, it turns out that you can use anything, so I'm using my digital camera. All you do is set up an account at TextAmerica, and e-mail your photos to a special e-mail account, and bang!, you've got photos online. I know I sound kinda retarded in this post, but it's just one of life's little joys that I get to use now. As if this blog wasn't enough, now you gotta see photos, too.

My address to my moblog is:

As of right now, there's nothing on it, but I plan on taking my cam everywhere, and documenting what I see...

More updates later...
I'm sitting in Computer class right now, the class starts in about 20 minutes, so there's not many people in here. Anyways, I turned on my wi-fi card, and netstumbler, and I picked up an AP I've never seen before (and I scanned this place lots of times, so I know it's new). The SSID was ubergamerz (sweet, I bet I could school them all!) And here's a screenshot:

Anyways, it's Friday. I'm tired, so I think I'll take a nap since I have nothing else to do today.

Wardriving a College

10:20 AM - Alright, I'm in CIS class right now, and there's a person in our class talking about IT (Information Technology), which is my major. I wanna listen to this, so more later...

5:50 PM - I'm in math class now, it's going to start in about 10 minutes...oh joy...I might leave early and wardrive deep into South Campus and dorms...So far I've only found a few, but they were around classroom buildings. Maybe a college student just bought a WAP, broadcasting the USA T-1 line out...I hope they use encryption...More later...

7:56 PM - Just got back home, and like I said, I went wardriving through the South Alabama campus. This time I drove all over the place...Computer labs, student center, Philosophy/English building, library, and a few dorm sections (I think the delta was one of them...anyways). I found some interesting things.

OK, you see that one named STT-PR-1 ? I found that one first, and I was coming out of the Math buildings (it's not on the main drive, it's before 1000 feet from there to the main drive where I started my wardrive into USA). The interesting thing about that one is it's a IBSS (Peer) AP, which means it was an Ad Hoc network (in laymans terms, someone elses laptop [or desktop, but more than likely a laptop] broadcasting a wireless signal in the 2.4GHz range. Moving on, I drove all around the place, first coming to the library/PHL EH building, and found another AP, YVPP. It was WEP on Channel 1, and the signal was nice and strong, even if I kept losing it until I finally lost it for good while driving away. Then I made my way into the dorm areas. I found 1 linksys AP w/ WEP (kinda odd, why didn't they change their SSID, I have no idea). Then, at a different dorm section, I found another AP, SSID was linksys, no WEP. What does that mean? That means they are basically broadcasting the campus T1 line to anyone one wants to sit outside the dorms and use the internet. Stupid people, I swear. All in all, pretty nice wardrive. I wish I had more time to drive into every nook and crany (sp?) (what a stupid-sounding phrase, lol). Well, ironicaly, I have to work on an English paper about, you guessed it, Wardriving. The rough draft is due tomorrow...Later...
